Sigma Alpha Iota maintains a library of interesting and informative multimedia presentations (videos are VHS only).

Video Project Offerings

 

  1. Music in Belize - The story of SAI Lois Lawrence's work in building a music program in this fascinating and exotic Central American country. 32 minutes.*
  2. Ode to Joy - The moving story of the Clarke School for the Deaf, illustrating the power of music and the joy it can bring even to those who cannot hear it. 51 minutes.
  3. Dr. Law and the Ailing Club Woman - Former SAI Parliamentarian Willabeth Jordan's wise and witty guidance on conducting successful meetings. 18 minutes. *
  4. Music Therapy and Medicine: Partnerships in Care - An exciting documentary exploring innovative ways in which music therapy can help doctors help their patients. 25 minutes.
  5. The MacDowell Colony. An affectionate look at this unique artists' retreat, with which SAI has been associated for over 75 years; now in an exciting updated version. 13 minutes. *
  6. Macdowell: An American Artists' Colony - This historical documentary includes filmed interviews with Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein. It gives us an inside view of the Colony and how it works. It is also the story of Marian MacDowell and how she turned 450 acres of New Hampshire farmland into the most creative piece of ground in America. Videotape, 60 minutes.
  7. Music Makes the Difference: Action Kit for Music Education - A vivid presentation from the Coalition for Music Education, stressing the importance of a musical education for all children. Two videotapes: Henry Mancini presents Let's Make Music, 8 minutes; School Music and Reverse Economics with John Benham, 13 minutes.
  8. Song of Survival - The remarkable story of courageous British, Australian and Dutch women - missionaries, teachers, nuns, wives and mothers - who survived 3 1/2 years in a World War II Japanese prison camp. Having no instruments but the human voice, they recreated from memory the great musical works they loved, and through the music rose above the horrors of their existence. The Peninsula Women's Chorus of Palo Alto, California, conducted by SAI Patricia Hennings, sings this rapturous music. 58 minutes.
  9. A Homage to Debussy Through the Impressionistic Arts - Pia Sebastiani's exquisite performances of Debussy piano Preludes are illuminated and enriched by the art, dance and poetry of the period. Iota Chi Chapter, Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, planned and produced this Debussy tape, with partial funding from an Impact Grant from SAI Philanthropies, Inc. 27 minutes *

  1. The History of Our Sigma Alpha Iota Ritual written by Leslie Nelson, former National Vice President, Ritual & Fraternity Education (1993-2003) is available for checkout on CD.
  2. Philanthropies Path of Progress - a presentation covering the history of Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc. This history was prepared for the celebration of SAI's 100th anniversary and was presented at the 2003 National Convention on August 3, 2003 in Dearborn, MI. The story is told through each of the Philanthropies Project Director's reports and describes how SAI Foundation and International Music Fund grew into what is known today as SAI Philanthropies, Inc.

Each of these presentations is available on loan, FREE, to any SAI chapter for chapter use. The starred presentations may be used with, for, or by non-SAI groups for a rental fee of $25.00 each. The non-starred items are for SAI use only. Late fees will be charged for videos not returned within one week of use.
